Abstract
524,309. Discharging retorts. WEST'S GAS IMPROVEMENT CO. Ltd., WEST, F. J., and WEST, E. Jan. 26, 1939, No. 2770. [Class 51 (ii)] In vertical retorts for the distillation of carbonaceous materials, members g carrying teeth g<SP>1</SP> are provided at opposite sides of the top of the coke chamber, so that on inward movement the teeth are embedded in the incandescent coke which is held up while discharge of the coke chamber a beneath may be effected without disturbing the charge in the carbonization space b. The lower door c is opened to discharge the coke by withdrawing the support d. The plates g are secured to pivoted and interconnected hollow members f which are coupled to hand operating means by which the teeth are actuated.
