Abstract
524,058. Conveyers. REDLER, A. Jan 20, 1939, No. 2070. [Class 78 (i)] In apparatus of the kind in which a chain travels through a trunk or trough so as to carry powdered or like material along with it, the links of the chain are provided with parts which are helical or otherwise similarly inclined to the direction of movement, said parts being adapted to sweep the walls of the trunk or trough and assist in conveying the material. Figs. 2 and 3 show one construction in which each link has a vertical member 24 at the front end, a horizontal member 23 at the rear end and helical connecting portions 26, 27 between them. In alternate links these helical portions are displaced angularly so as to sweep the portions 31 of the tube missed by the members 26, 27, and preferably such portions of the alternate links are of opposite kind to those of the links first described to avoid any tendency of the chain to twist by reacting against the material. In a modification an additional eye is formed at the front of each link to engage the adjacent link. Fig. 7 shows a link with helical portions 37 terminating in eyes 38, 39. The chains may have other links interposed in the run, for example scraper links at intervals to clean the tubes or brush links for the same purpose.
