523,859. Purifying sugar solutions. REDDIE, L. N. (Girdler Corporation). Jan. 16, 1939, No. 1521. [Class 127] Sugar solutions are purified by treating them with bentonite, at any stage from the raw juice to the final molasses. The mixture of bentonite and sugar solution is preferably heated to from 82‹ to 99‹C. to agglomerate the precipitate which may be removed as by filters of centrifuges or as a floating scum and may be treated to extract any desired non-sugar that has been removed. The process may be used in addition to any of the usual processes of sugar refining.
