Abstract

523,433. Stylus for facsimile recorders. FINCH, W. G. H., and FINCH TELECOMMUNICATIONS, Inc. Jan. 6, 1939, No. 518. Convention date, Jan. 7, 1938. [Class 40 (iii)] In a facsimile recorder having sensitized paper arranged on a concave holder in which a stylus arm, carrying an electrically controlled marking point, is pivotally arranged-to scan the paper in an arcuate path, the marking point is carried on an arm pivoted on the stylus arm and restrained by spring actuated means to be normally in line with the stylus arm, but can rotate slightly about its pivot when the marking point meets an obstruction on the paper. The stylus 11 is pivoted at point 12 on the arm 5 which is moved so that the stylus point 7 traverses in an arcuate path across the paper 8 which is fed through the guides 9. If an obstruction 19 impedes the travel of point 7, the stylus 11 turns as shown until the point rides over the obstruction. The scissors clamps 13 pivoted at point 14 and connected to springs 15, 16, then return the stylus to its normal position parallel with arm 5. Stop 18 prevents displacement of the clamps beyond the normal recording position. Recording may be effected by a high-tension spark, electrolytic decomposition, or a heated stylus, Fig. 4 (not shown), melting a wax coating.
