Abstract
523,139. Column stills. RHEINMETALLBORSIG AKT.-GES. (formerly RHEINMETALL-BORSIG AKT.-GES. WERK BORSIG). March 29, 1939, No. 9801. Convention date, June 11, 1938. [Class 32] A mixture of two components is resolved into pure components by fractional distillation in two columns or two groups of columns, arranged in series, the lighter component, when preponderating, being taken off as a head product A in the first column K from which the impure bottom product B<SP>1</SP> is passed to the second column K<SP>1</SP> where the heavier component B is recovered as a bottom product, the impure head product A<SP>1</SP> from the second column passing to a storage receptacle S where it is mixed with raw material M and again passed to the first column. If the heavier component predominates it is taken off as a bottom product in the first column and the impure head product passed to the second column where the lighter product is recovered as an overhead while the impure bottom product is returned to the receptacle. An example of the separation of a mixture of phenol and o-cresol is given.
