Abstract
522,905. Magnetrons. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. Dec. 20, 1938, No. 37050. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] A magnetron tube for ultra short wave work comprises a strip-shaped Lecher line L located wholly or partly inside the envelope, and a number of straight-edged anode plates S1, S2, S3, S4, arranged transversely to the length of the line and perpendicularly to and between its planes ; they are arranged radially to a cathode K so that the cathode and their inner edges constitute a discharge system, the anodes being fixed in groups S1, S3 and S2, S4 to the two sides of the Lecher line and being less in height than the distance between these two sides. The Lecher line is carried at the midpoint by a support S, and the cathode by support leads H. Further to increase the mechanical stability of the device the anode plates may be formed integrally in pairs by bending over the arch of a flat U-shaped plate, this portion being used to secure them to the Lecher conductor. The Lecher conductor may be channel shaped in cross section. To prevent too great a capacity between each anode plate and the oppsiote side of the Lecher line the edge of the plate next to that side is tapered away from the active edge next to the cathode so that the gap between plate and Lecher conductor is not parallel-sided. The plates are preferably mounted diagonally as shown. Interception plates carried by the support 5 or a negatively biassed strip on the envelope may be used to prevent electron bombardment of the envelope.
