522,568. Agglutinated cord fabrics. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., TWISS, D. F., EVERETT, R. M., and JONES, F. A. Dec. 9, 1938. No. 35925. [Class 140] [Also in Group V] Vulcanizable rubber is bonded' to textile material of or derived from cellulose, e.g., cotton or rayon,' by applying to the textile material a small proportion of an organic nitroso-compound, contacting the rubber and textile material and vulcanizing. The nitroso-compound may be applied as such or in solution or dispersion. The process may be applied to cords in making pneumatic tyres or belts. Suitable compounds include p-nitrosophenol, nitrosonaphthols, e.g., α-nitroso-#-naphthol, diphenylnitroso-amine and nitrosodialkylanilines or their derivatives,. e.g., p-nitrosodimethylaniline. Rubber includes natural, isomerised or cyclised rubber, gutta percha, balata, synthetic and reclaimed rubber,- and may be applied dry or as a solution or dispersion. Examples describe drawing a cord slowly through a 5 per cent. solution of the nitroso-compound in toluene, drying, cutting into lengths, embedding side by side between two rubber layers and vulcanizing in a steam-heated mould. Further layers of rubber may be applied under pressure and heat.
