Abstract
522,482. Alloys ; annealing. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS Ltd. (Mallory & Co., Inc., P. R.): Nov. 28, 1938, No. 34624. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] A hardened copper alloy whose hardness is due to a content, as a result of heat treatment, of one or more intermetallic compounds of chromium, cobalt, or nickel with silicon or beryllium, contains also 0À05-3 per cent. of magnesium. The preferred proportions are (1) 0À1-3 per cent. of magnesium, (2) 0À1-3 per cent. of chromium, 0À1-5 per cent. of nickel, or 0À1-5 per cent. of cobalt, and (3) 0À1-3 per cent. of silicon or beryllium. Small amounts of the following elements may also be present: silver, zinc cadmium, tin, zirconium calcium, lithium, titanium, manganese, and phosphorus. The heat treatment may comprise quenching from over 700‹C. preferably 800-1000‹C., followed by ageing at below 700‹C., preferably 400-600‹C. The alloys are particularly applicable for welding electrodes and other electrical purposes and for parts of internal combustion engines. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller Specification 512,142.
