Abstract

522,270. Garden tools. - BILLINGTON, P W. Dec. 5, 1938, No..35354. [Class 6 (ii)] [Also in Group XVIII] A hand-manipulated implement, particularly a fork or scoop for the transport of foodstuffs for animals, has the shaft divided into two portions 1, 2, Fig. 1, connected by a pivot 8, the portion 1 having secured thereto a bent metal rod 10 passing through the portion 2 or through a metal sleeve 4 thereon, and being restrained by a spring 12. The downwardly-directed portion of the rod 10 is graduated. A-load taken up on the portion 1 exposes the graduations, and the operator holding the handle portion 2 may shake off or add material until the desired load' is obtained. In a modification, Fig. 3, the shaft, or a sleeve connectingthe two portions of the shaft is bored to receive a spring-pressed rod 11 'terminating in a knob 14 which is held in the hand during a weighing operation, the weight on the fork or scoop being indicated by graduations exposed as the rod is pressed upwards against the resistance of the spring.
