Abstract
521,310. Ironing-machines. SWIFT, J. Nov. 15, 1938, Nos. 33172/36 and 3108/39 (the second Provisional Specification being divided out of the first Provisional Specification). [Class 138 (ii)] Sheets &c. are delivered from an ironing machine in a longitudinally folded state by means which receive and support the sheet along a fold line as it is delivered whilst allowing the sides to fall by gravity. The means may comprise one or more endless travelling cords or chains or inclined fixed bars according to the number of longitudinal folds desired, and provision may be made for folding the reverse side out and delivering to either the side or front of the machine for further folding manually. In Fig. 3 the sheet is delivered on to two endless travelling cords 25, 26 which converge and produce a double longitudinal fold. Guide plates may be arranged between the cord pulleys 31, and curved guides may be provided beyond the outer ends of the cords to facilitate taking off the folded sheet. In Fig. 8, for delivering to the side of the machine, the travelling cord 35 runs in the reverse direction and receives the sheet delivered over the delivery board so that the outer surface is reversed, the cord and sheet being led round a guide roll 36 for delivering at the side, or passed between a pair of balls which effect delivery to the rear. In a modification the sheet is delivered on to a flexible chain effecting side delivery.
