Abstract

521,257. Trueing grinding wheels. COVENTRY GAUGE & TOOL CO., Ltd., WAINWRIGHT, J. E., and HARLEY, S. J. Nov. 10, 1938, No. 32629. [Class 60] Wheels for grinding involute gear teeth are dressed by a tool 2 starting from a position on the base circle 9 and mounted to move tangentially to this circle in a slide on a plate 5 rotatable about the common centre of the base circle and a fixed wheel or sector 6. The tool slide is traversed by a projection 8 engaging an adjustable sine bar 7 mounted on a slide traversed by a nut on a screw 12 that also meshes with worm wheel teeth on the wheel 6. The shaft 10 may be provided with-separate worms for engaging the nut and worm wheel permitting variation in the ratio of movements. The sine bar is so set that the linear movement of the tool equals the arc of displacement round the base circle. Interference may be reduced by modifying the setting of the sine bar or by employing a bar having a composite surface comprising portions at different angles. In a modification the screw is replaced by a sector engaging teeth both on the wheel 6 and on the slide. The trueing device may be displaced through 180‹ to true the other side of the wheel or the parts may be duplicated so that both sides may be trued simultaneously.
