Abstract

521,106. Motor-cycle frames &c. VELOCE, Ltd., and IRVING, P. E. Nov. 8, 1938. No. 32343 [Classes 136 (i) and 136 (iii) ]. A motor-cycle frame comprises the combination of a front portion of tubular or like construction, a rear portion made from sheet metal and secured to the front portion, and an articulated member which carries the rear road wheel and is resilientlv connected to the sheet metal portion by springs &c., permitting the required movements of the articulated member. The rear portion a of the cycle frame is made of sheet-metal shaped to extend over and enclose the upper and front parts of the rear wheel b, and adapted to carry a seat c for a passenger and to support the springs d of the driver's saddle e, or to support a single seat for both passenger and driver, the portion a being bolted at g to the tubular front portion f of the frame. A fork h carrying the rear-wheel spindle i is pivoted at j to the front frame portion f, and is controlled by a pair of compression springs k, which are enclosed in telescopic casings k<SP>1</SP> and are connected to opposite ends of a transverse rod m adjustable along slots n to vary the' action of the springs according to load conditions. The upper parts of the springs are enclosed in cover pieces o detachably secured to the sides of the frame portion a and slotted for the rod m, which also passes through slotted members p for stiffening the upper edges of the portion a. Recesses q with lids r accommodate tools, batteries, &c. The frame portion a constitutes part of a mudguard, and is provided with a rear extension s which is hinged at u and is releasably secured in the service position by bolts v.
