Abstract

520,680. Diaphragm pumps. NAHMAN, G. Aug. 13, 1938, No. 23945. Convention date, Aug. 19, 1937. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] The magnet 1 and/or the armature 2 of a reciprocating motor incorporated in a diaphragm-type pump is embedded in a block of thermoplastic material, and the magnet core is made up of radially arranged C-shaped laminations so as to constitute an annular body of C-section. The magnet laminations abut against a central metal tube 3 and are held in a moulded cap a which is cast about the magnet and its exciting coil 6. A metal base c screws into the cap and grips the edge of a diaphragm M moulded together with radial laminations l<SP>1</SP> into a thermoplastic disc b. The mouldable material extends into a tubular part b<SP>1</SP> which can slide along a guide tube D held by a nut E. The parts a, c may be held together by the nut E and the tube D whereby the screw thread 4 may be dispensed with. The armature 2 acts as the piston of the pump drawing in air or other fluid through a valve 8 and expelling it through a valve 9 into the pressure chamber Z, whence it flows out through the tube D. Springs 10 maintain the armature in the unattracted position and openings 11 in the cap allow air to enter freely above the armature. A buffer 7 may be incorporated in the armature. The mouldable material may be reinforced with inserts of other materials. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the following. The armature may consist of sheets staggered so that there is a greater number at the periphery than at the centre and instead of laminations, wire or other thin pieces may be used. The mouldable material may incorporate supporting guides or electrical accessories. Cooling is effected by the flow of the pumped fluid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
