519,754. Coating-compositions. HINRICHS, W. J. H. Sept. 30, 1938, No. 28524. Convention date, Oct. 6, 1937. [Class 95] [Also in Group IV] Elastic coating compositions, suitable for rendering paper, card, textiles and the like impermeable to oil and organic solvents, are prepared by treating an albuminous adhesive material with ammonia or an amine to render it cold-soluble, treating an aqueous solution of the cold-soluble material with an aldehyde capable of hardening it, and then mixing the solution with an aqueous dispersion of rubber or of a rubber-like material such as a polyvinyl compound, which dispersion may have been stabilized by ammonia. Specified albuminous adhesive materials are skin glue, bone glue, albumen, casein and soya casein. The admixture of albuminous solution and rubber dispersion is effected at a temperature below 50‹C., and preferably between 20‹ and 30‹C., and, after the mixture has stood for a day or longer, a further quantity of the aldehyde, e.g.. formaldehyde, may be added. Containers, made of paper or the like, may be coated with the compositions.
