Abstract
518,921. Tuyeres. FREYN ENGINEERING CO. Aug. 9, 1938, No. 23475. Convention date, Aug. 28, 1937. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A tuyere for use particularly in blast furnaces comprises a water cooled body portion formed of a metal such as copper or al uminium of relatively high heat conductivity to which is attached a protective nose formed of a metal such as iron or steel of higher melting point and lower heat conductivity than the body. As shown in Fig. 1, the body 10 is provided with a tapering massive nose 13 enveloped by a protective member 12 which is secured by forcing the annular shoulder 16 of the body outwardly against a flaring wall 16a on the protective member 12. In the modification shown in Fig. 2 the protective member 12a is secured merely by making it a tight fit on the body. Fig. 3 shows a further modification in which the body is cast upon the protective member 23 which may be heated electrically while in the mould. The protective member may be applied to the body by spraying metal thereon.
