518,047. Windings for dynamo electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 15, 1938, No. 26956. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1937. [Class 35] A commutator type machine has a main and an auxiliary winding in the same armature slots and connected to the commutator in parallel the two windings having approximately the same voltage induced in them and the auxiliary winding has a higher resistance and lower inductance and is disposed nearer to the mouths of the slots. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the pitch of the high resistance winding 11 exceeds the pole pitch P and the pitch of the main winding 10 is less than the pitch P to such an extent that the same voltage is induced in both windings. In Fig. 3, the main winding 17 has one turn of 100 per cent. pitch between segments and the high resistance winding has two turns per coil with a pitch of one third the pole pitch.If desired both windings may have the same pitch with the same number of turns per coil. In each case the two windings are connected in parallel to the segments 12 and the high resistance coils are disposed close to the slot mouth so that they have the lowest selfinductance.
