Abstract
516,446. Canal-ray tubes. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. June 27, 1938, No. 19028. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] In devices for producing rapidly moving ions from a gas-filled anode chamber 9, the ions passing through a perforated cathode 10 into a continuously evacuated chamber 5, the ions are concentrated into a beam before reaching the cathode; this is effected by a perforated diaphragm 8 on the chamber 9 or by one or more intermediate perforated diaphragms 11. The diaphragm 8 may be curved and the potential of the diaphragm 11 may differ from that of the anode 9. The diameter of the orifice in the cathode may be made equal to or greater than the length of the channel.
