Abstract
516,424. Railway - vehicle undercarriages. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G. April 29, 1938, No. 12855. Convention date, May 3, 1937. [Class 103 (vi)] [Also in Group XXXI] A rail vehicle or tractor unit providing a better ratio power in respect to gross load is constructed with a pair of load carrying side frames supported at their ends and forming the skeleton of the body and an underframe section which carries the power plant and is rigidly secured to the side frames by transverse beams extending outwardly thereof. The power plant 12 comprising a prime mover, generator and auxiliaries is mounted on an underframe constituted by side members 31 fixed to transverse members 32, 33 which are rigidly secured and braced by webs 35 and 35a to a pair of loadcarrying side frames and to main underframe members 37, 38 extending to the bolsters 39, 40 mounted over the supporting trucks. As shown, the bolster 40 is of the articulation type with centre sill bearing 41 and side bearings 42 and is braced to the members 38. The transverse members 32, 33 and the bolsters terminate in large flanges to which are secured the side frames forming the skeleton of the vehicle body and comprising longitudinal members 20, 21, 22, 23 and a belt rail 28 which are strengthened by posts 24, diagonals 26, and gussets 27,
