Abstract
516,119. Cast iron. DEUTSCHE EISENWERKE AKT.-GES. June 16, 1938, No. 17925. Convention date, June 21, 1937 [Class 72] In the production of cast-iron from pig iron or pig iron and iron scrap in cupola furnaces, the normal quantity of coke is loosely mixed with an additional heat carrier of steel or other iron poor in carbon in a form having a large surface and a small cross-section such as wool, shavings, turnings, sheet waste or sheet boxes. The steel wool is added in such quantities, e.g., 5-40 per cent. by weight of the coke, that the heat developed results in an increase in the melting temperature of the iron without appreciably influencing its carbon content. Specification 516,057 is referred to.
