516,106. Metal bars and plates; structural joints.. RICHARDS. F. Jan. 27. 1939, No. 2931. [Class 20 (ii)] Channel-section bars or plates of the kind having flat flange portions 10, 12 interconnected by substantially flat webs 13 arranged obliquely with respect to the neutral axis, webs increasing in thickness from the neutral axis towards the flanges, have the terminal flanges 17, 18 provided with longitudinal ribs 19 directed inwardly towards the neutral axis but terminating short thereof. The outside surfaces of the ribs preferably lie in planes at right angles to the neutral axis, and the plate may be joined edgewise by bolts 28 passing through registering apertures in the edges of the plates, and dished washers 30.
