Abstract

513,927. Latches. MURRAY, A. B. April 23, 1938, No. 12265. [Class 44] To prevent forcing back a latch'bolt by an implement inserted through the gap 18 between the edge of a door and its frame 19, a groove 15 is provided across a face of the bolt other than the inclined striking surface 14. The side of the groove remote from the bolt end slopes gradually and may extend into the lock casing. The other side of the groove is steep, and may be undercut so that the inserted implement enters the groove and urges the bolt towards shot position. As shown, the end 14 is more steeply inclined than usual, and the striking surface 16 of the staple 12 is so inclined and extended as to provide the necessary cam action. With suitable surface 16, the bolt end may be at right-angles to the other faces. A modification is described in which the bolt end is further out of the case than usual, the surface 16 of the keeper being correspondingly set back from free edge of the post 19.
