Abstract

513,750. Respiratory guards for surgeons &c. KEEN, H. D. April 19, 1938, No. 11773. [Class 81(ii)] In apparatus comprising a shield 16, covering the nose and mouth, and carried by a spectaclelike frame 12, which has side-pieces 12a and rests on the nose at 10, the shield is non- detachably mounted on the frame, as by one or two U-section bars 14, to which the shield is riveted and which are soldered to the frame. The shield 16, which deflects the breath of the wearer and protects him against anaesthetic or the patient's breath, is bowed outwardly, is deeper in the centre than at the sides, and is preferably made of regenerated cellulose, cellulose acetate, or other transparent material. The frame 12 and the bars 14 may also be of transparent material and the frame may not have lens-holding portions.
