Abstract

513,373. Cables; cable joints. ALLGEMEINE ELEKTRICITATS-GES. April 8, 1938, No. 10854. Convention date, April 13, 1937. [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] A thickened or enlarged portion, e.g. a loading-coil sleeve, of an armoured cable is rendered pressure resistant by a helical wire 1, Fig. 1, preferably of flat section, applied over the portion and provided with helically disposed notches 2 for receiving the armouring wires. The thickened or enlarged portion may be first covered by a helically grooved flexible metal pipe, into the groove of which the notched wire is wound or screwed. Fig. 4 shows the wire 1 disposed in the groove 4 between adjacent turns of a Z-shaped strip 3 from which the flexible pipe is formed.
