Abstract
512,811. Heat-treating metal bands. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. March 21, 1938, No. 8654. Convention date, April 22, 1937. [Class 72] [Also in Group XXII] In the heat treatment of metal bands, the band is wound up into a roll with the interposition of two narrow marginal strips of appreciable thickness and of such a form, e.g., corrugated, as to permit the flow of gas or liquid into the spaces between the individual convolutions of the roll which is then subjected to heat treatment which may be followed by quenching. The metal band A passes over a roller B, brake C and guide D out to a winding drum E. Between the guide D and drum E is located a device F for feeding and positioning the corrugated strips H from two drums G, said device consisting of a shaft a on which are slidably mounted two adjustable brackets b each carrying a guide c for the strip H, a vertically disposed roller d for the edge of the band A and a horizontally disposed roller e which rolls on the band. The drum E which winds the band A and strips H is provided with a slot in which is disposed a shaft g eccentrically mounted at f. Two marginal rings are pushed on the drum before the band is wound and are clamped by the shaft g at a distance from one another corresponding to the width of the band. After the roll has been completed, the clamping pressure is released and the roll with the marginal rings removed from the drum E and placed in the annealing furnace.
