Abstract
512,342. Casement windows; doors. WESTWICK, W. April 20, 1938, No. 11868. [Class 20 (iii)] A casement window, door, or like hinged closure member, of the kind in which the sash and frame are provided with interengaging tongues and grooves, is characterised in that the tongues project an amount not less than the depth of the grooves so that, when the window &c. is closed, the tongues bear tightly against the bottoms of the grooves, and the mouths of the grooves are wider than the tongues to ensure registering of the tongues and grooves in the event of the sash &c. shrinking or swelling. In the casement window shown, which may be made of wood or metal, tongues a of rubber, leather, wood, or metal are secured in grooves m in the outer edges of the sash rails and swinging stile d, and engage in grooves f in the transom, sill and free jamb g. A tongue p secured in a groove o in the hanging jamb r engages a groove t in the transverse edge of the adjacent sash stile v. Similar grooves o, t may also be formed in the other members of the sash and fixed frames to form drainage channels for any moisture driven between the sash and frame.
