Abstract

512,188. Hurricane lanterns. JARDINE, D. P. July 18, 1938, No. 21231. [Class 75 (iv)] In a hurricane lantern, the air tubes 11 extending between the metal chimney 16 and the burner are provided, in their upper parts and on their inner faces, with holes or slots 13 so that fresh air from the atmosphere is entrained by the gases passing to the burner. As shown in Fig. 2, the glass chimney 15 is retained in position by a guard 19 made from a single length of wire having its ends attached to the perforated plate 18.
