Abstract
511,932. Screw fans. BARKER, D. R., and BARKER, W. H. March 28, 1939, No. 9663. [Class 110 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A screw ventilating fan is formed with a flat portion of its driving face toward the trailing edge and with a curved leading section arranged so that the pitch of each blade decreases progressively from the root to the tip. A section of each blade between the trailing edge 4, the root portion and a line 5 joining the outer tip of the trailing edge with the inner point of the leading edge 3 is a flat surface, whilst the remaining portion 2 between the diagonal line 5 and the leading edge 3 is bent over, whereby the pitch decreases from root to tip. The trailing edge is preferably straight, and the leading edge is convexly curved whilst the tip is formed by curve concentric with the shaft. The blade may be made from sheet metal or may have an aerofoil section. The boss is formed with an inner sleeve 7 adapted to be secured to the driving shaft and an outer sleeve 1, the two being connected by segmental ribs 8. The outer sleeve 1 is slotted at 9 to receive the blade root and the latter is bolted to the part 8 through connections 10.
