Abstract

511,770. Colour photography. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. Jan. 19. 1938. No. 1792. Convention date, Jan. 21, 1937. [Class 98 (ii)] Colour pictures on multilayer photographic material comprising silver halide emulsion layers containing dyestuff components fast to diffusion are produced by exposure, development to a black-and-white picture, fixing conversion of the silver to a redevelopable silver salt, and colour development. False colour balance may be eliminated by successive development with different colour developers acting with different speeds on the dyestuff components contained in the layers. Different colour developing substances may-be used or the speed of action of the same or different developers may be varied by additions such as sodium sulphite, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide or ethanolamine. The colour developer may also contain additional dyestuff components for colour correction purposes. In an example, an exposed film comprising (a) a panchromatic emulsion containing a dyestuff component fast to diffusion which yields a blue image on colour development, (b) a green-sensitized emulsion containing a dyestuff component fast to diffusion which yields a red image on colour development and (c) a non-colour sensitized layer containing a dyestuff component fast to diffusion which yields a yellow image on colour development is developed to black-and-white, washed and fixed, bleached in cupric chloride solution, washed, developed in a p-aminodimethylaniline developer, washed, and the silver image removed with Farmer's 'Reducer. Incorrect colouration may be corrected by bleaching the silver produced by colour development and re-developing with a colour developer containing a dyestuff component giving a compensating colour, for example, 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone or alphanaphthol. A dyestuff component, for example acetoacetic acid anilide, may alternatively be added to the first colour developer. In another example a colour developer giving the desired alteration of colour, for example 6-methylamino- 3-toluidine, is used in place of p-amiriodimethylaniline.
