Abstract
510,499. Apparatus for pasteurizing liquids in bottles or other containers. HANSEN, C. S. Dec. 8, 1938, No. 35797. [Class 49] In apparatus for pasteurizing beer, milk or other liquids in bottles, cans or like containers, the containers are taken by a conveyer 7 on which they stand freely or in low holders through a preheating zone 1, 2 in which they are sprinkled with preheating liquid, a pasteurizing zone 3 in which they are sprinkled with and immersed in heating liquid, and a cooling zone 4, 5, 6 in which they are sprinkled with cooling liquid, the preheating and cooling zones being arranged with a variation of temperature such that gradual heating and cooling of the containers is obtained. As shown, the apparatus is provided with sprinkler pipes 12 for supplying the heating or cooling liquid and the preheating zone includes two chambers 1, 2 in which the water used for sprinkling is kept at about 35 and 50 C. respectively and the cooling zone chambers 4, 5 with the water at about 50 and 35C. respectively and a chamber 6 with cold water. A common circulating pump may be employed for chambers 1, 5 and another for chambers 2, 4 to effect heat exchange, the chambers being additionally provided with means for supply of steam or water for regulating the heat, the water collected in-chamber 6 being employed. In the pasteurizing chamber 7 the water is at about 60-70C. The slope of the conveyer in chamber 7 does not exceed 14 degrees to prevent the containers sliding thereon.
