Abstract
510,458. Electric incandescent lamps. BARASCH, I. Feb. 3, 1938, No. 3418. [Class 39 (ii)] Tubular lamps of the kind wherein the filament is connected by leading-in wires to a single laterally extending contact cap are provided with one or more laterally extending supporting members additional to the cap and affixed to the lamp envelope. In the example the contact cap 1 is fixed near one end of the lamp and a similarly shaped dummy cap 2 is mounted over a sealing- off nipple 3 near the other end. The dummy cap 2 may be made entirely of insulating material, and may be inserted in a live lampholder, for example when the lamp is used in a changeable sign. The contact cap may be disposed intermediate the ends of the lamp, with one or more supporting caps secured upon the parts of the bulb at each side of it. The supporting members may be of less length and greater cross-section than the contact caps, and disposed so that they can engage the 'tops of suitably disposed lampholders; they may consist of resilient material, such as rubber.
