Abstract

510,125. Flotation apparatus. TRIGGS, W. W. (Munro, A. C., and Pearse, H. A.). Oct. 8, 1938, No. 29236. [Class 82 (ii)] The cell of a pneumatic or air-lift flotation apparatus is provided with baffle means defining an airlift compartment and a separating compartment, and the gas is introduced below the air-lift compartment at a depth of more than 4 feet below the pulp level, preferably at a depth of about 10 feet. In the form shown the air-lift and separating compartment are defined by baffles 9, the froth being directed under baffies 11 to froth lips 12 leading to side launders 13. The gas is introduced by pipes 8 depending from a header 7 and the pulp level can be adjusted bv a weir on the tailings discharge at one end of the cell. The gas may be introduced by means other than that shown, e.g. by a previous bottom structure, by upwardly directed openings or nozzles, or by a perforated supply pipe extending along the lower portion of the air-lift compartment. By increasing the depth at which the gas is introduced less power is required for a given flotation capacity, a smaller cell can be used, and clogging is prevented. U.S.A. Specifications 1,441,560, 1,547,548, 1,732,893, 1,912,228, and 1,912,630 are referred to.
