508,472. Impulse transmitters; clutches. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Associated Electric Laboratories, Inc.) Jan. 1, 1938, No. 34130/37. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XXIV] The clicking noise due to the passage of the pawl of a dial transmitter over the teeth of the ratchet wheel is prevented by (1) mounting a resilient ratchet wheel at the side of the normal ratchet wheel with the sloping edges of the teeth of the resilient wheel standing slightly above the corresponding edges of the normal wheel, or (2) providing the nose of the pawl with a resilient inset. The resilient material may be synthetic, rubber, e.g. Thiokol which is not effected by lubricant. In both' cases, the pawl makes metal-to-metal contact with the ratchet wheel when in driving engagement therewith.
