Abstract

508,418. Electric control systems. GRANAT, E., and COMPAGNIE DES FORGES ET ACIERIES DE LA MARINE ET D'HOMECOURT. April 4, 1938, No. 10294. Convention date, May 4, 1937. [Class 40 (i)] In a system for transmitting angular movements of the type wherein the controlled object is brought into correspondence with the transmitter at a variable speed depending on the amount of disagreement, the object is driven by a motor, the rotor of which is excited by a field stationary in space and the stator by a field variable in position according to the disagreement between the object and the transmitter. The speed of the motor is determined by the angular displacement between the fields, the motor being stopped and magnetically braked when the fields are brought into coincidence. As shown, the system is adapted for controlling a gun or like platform A from a telescope O through the medium of coarse and fine transmission systems 1, 2 ; 11, 2<1>, each comprising a dynamo-electric transmitter with movable brushes connected to a resultant field receiver. The receivers 2, 2<1> control coarse and fine distributer switches 7, 7<1> through differential mechanisms D, D<1> which also are controlled by the platform A. The switches 7, 7<1> are connected to tappings on the stator winding of the motor 4 which drives the platform. The rotor of the motor 4 is supplied by an auxiliary transmitter 3 through brushes 5 which are rotated by the motor 4 to produce a field in the rotor which is stationary in space. The arrangement is such that for large disagreement between the positions of the parts O, A the switch 7 causes maximum displacement of the stator field of motor 4 to produce fast running of the motor and then the disagreement is reduced to a predetermined value the switch 7 is restored bv the differential D to switch in the switch 7<1> which due to its connections to the stator winding gradually reduces the angular displacement between the fields and consequently the speed of the motor. When the fields are brought into coincidence, the motor is stopped and magnetically braked. In a modification, the rotor of the motor 4 may be fed from the auxiliary transmitter through a motor-generator amplifier. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 6496/12, [Class 38 (iii)].
