[Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIV] A spindle drive for lathe, drilling-machine, or like machine tool, comprises a continuously variable driving shaft 14 (driven from a variable-speed electric motor or from a fluid transmission gear 13) which may be connected to the working spindle 18 either (a) through a belt transmission mechanism 16, 17, 19 for a high-speed drive, or (b) through a gear train 24, 22, 23, 20, for a low-speed drive.
