Abstract

506,388. Forced - flow steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Nov. 24, 1937, No. 32379. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1936. [Class 123 (ii)] The evaporating sections 10, 11 of a forced flow boiler discharge into a separator 14 from which a part of the separated water is drawn by a pump 25 and forced through the final section 11 of the boiler when the water content of mixture in the section is insufficient to prevent deposition of salts and formation of scale in the tubes of the section. The return of water to the tubes of the final section is controlled by valves 26 operated in accordance with the density of the mixture delivered by the tubes. The density is determined by a differential pressure gauge connected to opposite sides of orifice plates at the delivery end of the tubes' and by meters indicating the flow through the tubes. The separator discharges into a vessel 19 connected to the steam space of the separator by a pipe 31 to prevent formation of steam in the pump .suction pipe 24. At starting, the pump 25 delivers water through a pipe 33 into the feed pipe 4.
