Abstract
505,906. Gravity-separation apparatus. GRIFFIN, J. D. Nov. 18, 1937, No. 31686. [Class 111] To separate detritus from sewage &c. it is caused to flow along a channel 3 fitted with plates 4 which may be vertical as shown in Fig. 3 or inclined towards central baffles 4a, as shown in Fig. 4. The detritus falls into the lower portion of the stream and is carried along the channel 7. At the end of the channel the lower part of the stream is separated from the upper by a hinged plate 8 and directed down a channel 12 into a settling chamber 13 at the bottom of which the detritus collects. Liquid from the chamber 13 rejoins the main flow, its flow from the chamber 13 being sometimes controlled by weirs, adjusted by a float responsive to the liquid level in the channel 3.
