505,105. Buffing - wheels; knitted fabrics. LIPPITT, S. W. Nov. 4, 1937, No. 30243. Convention date, Feb. 3. [Class 60] [Also in Group VIII] A buffing-wheel has thebuffing- element thereof composed of a knitted fabric formed wholly or in part from a cord or cords consisting of a rolled up or twisted strip of paper. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the wheel is formed of elements 10 made of the paper cord or of cotton &c. cord knitted as described in Specification 505,107, the elements being secured on a shaft 11 by flanges 12 and lock nuts 13 and provided with radial cords 17 of twisted or rolled up paper. In the construction shown in Fig. 7, the buffing-element is formed of the paper or composite fabric 14, as described above, made in strip form and wound on an arbor with the ends overhanging tb provide end operative faces 15 ; the courses of knitting 16 run at right-angles to the operative faces, as do the cords 17, when used. In the manufacture of the paper cord, the cementitious material applied to the strip may include an abrasive, and the strip may be sized with a material having abrasive properties.
