Abstract
504,319. Rope railways; railway systems. STRUNK, F. G. Feb. 19, 1938, No. 5312. [Class 104 (ii)] Apparatus for propelling trains of trucks or the like on rails, comprises a pair of parallel truck-moving members which carry driver-members adapted to engage the trucks and are reciprocated in opposite directions by a continuously rotating motor operating through crank mechanism. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the truck axles are engaged by drivers 13, 14 mounted on slides 15, 16 which are reciprocated on supporting rollers 24 by connecting rods 19, 20 secured to crank arms 18a, 18b on a shaft 18 driven through reduction gearing 21 and a friction clutch 27 by a motor 17. The drivers are pivotally mounted so as to pass under the truck axles during the return movement of the slides, and have an idle movement before engaging the axles on their forward stroke to enable them to swing up to an operative position. A looking device 27<1> prevents the trucks running backwards when the clutch 27 is disengaged. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, only two drivers 13, 14 are provided, and these are secured to the runs of an endless rope 32 which is driven. by a pulley 30 rotated by a pinion 29 engaging racks 11<1>, 12<1> secured to the connecting rods 20<1>, 19<1>.
