Abstract
502,434. Safety valves. MITCHELL, F. R., and PEEBLES & CO., Ltd. Dec. 23, 1937, No. 35576. [Class 135] A safety valve for gas mains and the like comprises a liquid seal valve having a bell immersed in a liquid seal and adapted to open in the event of explosion and having an auxiliary chamber into which the sealing liquid may be blown. Excess pressure causes the bell 6 tc rise out of the sealing liquid (e.g. mercury), and flanges 8 and 9 adjoining the liquid trough form the chamber to prevent spilling, the member 9 normally dipping into the liquid. The bell is guided by a spindle 11 working in a spider 12 in the inlet and a bridge 13 secured to the casing by pillars 131. A buffer spring 14, or a piston and dashpot, absorbs shock as the bell reaches the upper end of its stroke.
