Abstract
502,098. Television. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and TERRY V. J. Sept. 10, 1937, No. 24722. [Class 40 (iii)] The direct current components are reduced by subjecting the signals to repeated reversal, preferably at the end of each line. Thus, the normal television signal A, Fig. 1, becomes the signal B. The normal signal A is applied at LL, Fig. 3, and a square-topped wave of half the line frequency is applied over transformer T1 to a diagonal of the " ring " modulator M, the repeatedly reversed signal B occurring at T2. The normal signal A can be obtained by rectifying the signal B. Preferably, the signal B is modulated on a carrier wave, and the carrier frequency is suppressed, so that the envelope is that of the normal signal modulated on a carrier whose phase is reversed at the end of each line. This carrier can be demodulated by a synchronized oscillator and the signal B obtained. If a picture signal without synchronizing signals is subject to reversals that are not instantaneous, the reversed signal when rectified will comprise blacker-than-blaok peaks at the reversal points, and these may be used as synchronizing signals..
