Abstract
501,474. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 31, 1938, No. 3035. Convention date, .Jan. 30, 1937. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] In applying stripwound magnetic cores to transformer windings, the strip is wound into a close coil 23 and heat-treated to remove strain. The end is threaded through the winding 32 and the end 26 is secured to the strip. Rotation of the coil 23 then unwinds the coil 23 and simultaneously rewinds it about the winding, Fig. 10. The strip is then tightened to its heat-treated diameter. The winding 32 is supported on a table, the wound coil is supported between rollers 27, 28 and the end is threaded through a window 24 and spotwelded at the point 26. The rollers 27, 28 are rotated to wind the coil about the winding, Fig. 10. The spot-weld is broken and a curved end E is clamped to the winding and the coil is tightened by rollers 128, 129 acting on the outside of the coil. The transformer is gripped between rollers 61, 62 by adjustment of a screw 68. A carriage 65 carrying the rollers is then lowered on a slide 73 to bring the winding level with a table 72. The strip is placed between the roller 28 and a roller 27 which is inserted in a slotted socket 94. The socket 94 is urged towards the roller 28 by springs. Upward movement of the lever 107 moves the socket inwards where it is locked by a pawl 111 to allow of threading the strip. An electromotor through a clutch 117 and gears 121 rotates the rollers 27, 28. After winding to the form shown in Fig. 10, the roller 27 is removed and rollers 128, 129 are moved to contact the strip to effect tightening.
