Abstract
501,170. Vehicle spring -suspensions. RAMSEY, A. R.J. (Mather Spring Co.) Jan. 7, 1938, No. 540. [Classes 103 (vi) and 108 (ii)] In a vehicle spring-suspension; of the kind in which the wheels 2 are mounted upon the free ends of swinging arms 6 fi against which laminated supporting springs press with a varying leverage, each co-operating arm 6 and spring 9 extend in opposite directions from their points of attachments 5, 7 to the vehicle body or chassis and are substantially parallel throughout their normal operation, the point of contact 11 between the spring and arm shifting as the arm is displaced, e.g. by change of load. In the road vehicle suspension shown a quarterelliptic spring 9 is employed, while in a modification, suitable for railway vehicle bogies, a pair of arms 6 contact with the free ends of a semielliptic spring.
