Abstract

501,028. Two-way transmission ; automatic volume control. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., NEILSON, C. B. V., and THOMAS, P. R. Aug. 20, 1937, No. 22903. [Claas 40 (iv)] A repeater comprising pentode or like amplifying valves in the ` go ' and return ' paths is provided with voice frequency signal responsive equipment between the pentode and the hybrid coil to which the pentode output circuit is connected, the impedance of the equipment being so chosen that transmission through the repeater is not impaired and the equipment receives adequate signal power. The signal responsive equipment may be connected across the secondary of the transformer T between the pentode V and the hybrid coil HC. Alternatively, the equipment may be connected across the primary of the transformer T in place of the resistance r, to the secondary of a transformer the primary of which is in series with the pentode output circuit, Fig. 4, or to a third winding on the transformer T as at R5, Fig. 3. The signal responsive equipment may comprise an amplifier AMP, Fig. 5, connected to acceptor circuits AC1 and AC2 tuned to again control frequency and a signal-frequency respectively. Gain control signals passing through circuit AC1 operate a relay SLD1 to energize control equipment GCD. Similarly, signal frequencies operate SLD2 to energize signal recording equipment SSR. Any voice frequency current operates an echo suppressor device ES by opening the normally closed circuit at sld1, sld2 or shd. Contacts shd are operated by a relay SHD which is operated by voice-currents other than those passed by AC1 and AC2.
