500,686. Phosphate cements. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHE1DEANSTALT VORM. ROESSLER, LOEBICH, O., and HINDERER, O. April 27, 1938, No. 12624. [Class 70] [Also in Group III] In the preparation of a zinc oxide powder for use in the production of phosphate cements for dental purposes, the initial material consisting of zinc oxide with or without subordinate quantities of magnesium oxide, bismuth oxide, or aluminium silicates is ground extremely finely, and the resulting powder then subjected to heat treatment at temperatures which do not cause sintering to such a degree that the produc has to be reground. Temperatures of 700-800 G. are preferred, but any temperature from 400 to 1000‹ C. may be used. The heat treatment removes the discoloration developed by grinding and avoids too rapid setting when the powder is triturated with phosphoric acid.
