Abstract
500,045. Valve modulating circuits. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and TERRONI, T. B. D. July 30, 1937, No. 21208. [Class 40 (v)] The modulating voltage is injected into the anode-cathode circuit of a wave generating or amplifying valve both on the anode and cathode sides of the high-tension source. As shown the modulating-valve PV is a pentode and two of its grids are back-coupled by the circuit LC to produce the carrier wave. Between the anode and the positive side of the H.T. source are connected a resistance R1 and the secondary coil of a transformer T3, and a further resistance, R2 and transformer T2 are connected between the cathode and the negative HT terminal. The primary coils of transformers T2, T3 are in series in the plate circuit of a valve TV, the grid of which is fed from the source of modulation M. The outer ends of resistances R1, R2 are connected by a carrier byepass condenser C3, whilst their inner ends are connected by condensers C1, C2 to the output terminals, which may be used to feed a push-pull amplifier for the modulated wave. The pentode may be replaced by a screen-grid valve, and the carrier may be generated by a separate valve and fed to a control grid of the modulating-valve.
