[Class 78 (i)] A conveyer or elevator of the pusher or of the en masse type comprising an endless chain or chains which support transverse solid or open flight members has a chain 24 made up of closely articulated links and a terminal driving sprocket 25 which is housed within a part forming an integral extension of the troughs 20, 20A, within which the flights move. The troughs may be semicircular in crosssection, as shown in Fig. 3, and be united by channelled stanchions 21, with a wall 22 between. The sprocket 25 is journalled on a bar 28 lying between the two troughs 20, 20A and removable through slots at the top of the stanchions. The flights 23 of the lifting trough 20 lie closely round the trough walls, and are preferably arranged so that their load is more or less balanced about the chain 24. A tensioning sprocket or roller 33 may be provided at the opposite terminal, being carried on bell-cranks 33A retracted by a spring 35. Alternatively a tensioning jockey roller may be located near the driving terminal. The sprocket 25 is driven by a motor 31 either directly through a chain 29 or through chain and gearing. The material may reach the conveyer through a shoot 36, or the whole elevator may be suspended from the top plate 32 and dipped into a hold &c. for entry of the material through the open bottom.
