Abstract
499,870. Umbrellas. BARCROFT, W. June 28, 1937, No. 17899. Drawings to Specification. [Class 134] An umbrella or the like has a mouth-piece or other simple opening through which the cover, or the cover and the upright support therefor, are inflated, the cover being closed by a plug or other simple means. The cover may comprise flexible ribs and an inflatable understructure, or may comprise inflatable ribs in the form of rubber tubes. In other forms, the cover is inflated through a tubular stick, the lower end of which comprises an air outlet, a non-return valve and an air pump. To prevent the cover being turned inside out, the ribs may be connected by rubber strips to a runner or fixed ring on the stick.
