Abstract
498,222. Making cartons &c. ROSE, A. G., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. May 4, 1937, No. 12644. [Class 18] A rectangular carton &c. with four end flaps has one end closed while still on the formerblock, which is one of a set arranged radially around a centre, by causing a tongue on one flap to engage a slit in the opposite flap by means of suitable folding mechanism, embodying a pushing member, the face of the block beneath the flaps being concave. The formerblocks 1 are carried on radial arms 2 which rotate in the direction of arrow A. Folder blades 9, 10 carried on arms 3, 4, geared together at 5, 6 are actuated through a rod 11 from cam 13 on the driving shaft. A pair of folding blades 16, 26, the former having a stop 16a which contacts the carton, are carried on arms 15, 24 pivoted at 17, 25 and actuated respectively by the sequences 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 27, 28, 29, 30. The tongue f is pressed in as shown in Fig. 5 by a pusher 31 actuated through the arm 32 from a vertical spindle 34, the flaps bending into the concave end of the former so that the slit opens. Member 33 is rocked by a connecting rod 45 from a cam, not shown.
