Abstract
498,213. Latches. WHEELER, F. W. L. Nov. 10, 1937, No. 30907. [Class 44] A latch for fanlights, cupboard doors, &c. of the kind in which the latch is withdrawn by a pivoted lever engaging the bolt, has a lever 5 the pivoted end of which is bifurcated to provide branches 5a between which the reduced and preferably rectangular-sectioned shank 3a of the bolt passes, said shank having a terminal lateral projection 6a to engage one branch, or a pair of sush proj ctions forming a cross-head engaging both branches 5a,. The casing 1 has an integral projection 9 received between the branches 5a and pivotally connected thereto by pin 10. Alternatively, two such projections may be provided for pivotal attachment thereto of the lever. The bolt is shot by a spring 4 abutting against the head of the bolt and against a slotted washer 8 closely embracing shank 3a and itself resting on a flange at the rear end of the casing. Washer 8 serves to close the aperture 7 which is large enough to allow passage of the cross-head 6a in assembling. The free end of lever 5 may have a ring, as shown, or may be otherwise formed.
