Abstract

497,576. Operating clutches. BRAMBLE, W. H., and RUSTON & HORNSBY, Ltd. April 15, 1937, No. 10703. [Class 80 (ii)] In mechanism wherein a clutch is engaged by oil or other liquid under pressure, the liquid is supplied from a pump or accumulator or both, at the full pressure required to maintain the clutch engaged, to a duct 31 from which it passes through an adjustably-loaded reducing valve 37 to a duct 33 leading, through a duct 36 and a control valve (not shown) to the clutch to effect engagement of the latter at a predetermined low pressure, while a byepass 35 between the ducts 31 and 33, controlled by an adjustable needle valve 45, permits the pressure in the duct 33 to build up progressively to the full engagement pressure.
